Why Locals Love East Coast Village Providore
East Coast Village Providore, nestled in the heart of St Helens, Tasmania, is a delightful fusion of a brunch restaurant and gourmet grocery store that truly celebrates local flavor and quality. This charming destination is much more than your average eatery or shop – it’s a vibrant hub where fresh, locally sourced ingredients meet culinary creativity and a passion for Tasmanian produce.
Step into the warm, inviting atmosphere of the café, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee blends seamlessly with the subtle scents of baked goods and spices. Here, the lunch menu offers a thoughtfully curated selection that excites the palate with its variety and flair. Imagine biting into a Cantonese-style pork belly bao bun, its tender, flavorful pork wrapped in a fluffy, soft bun, or savoring the rich, robust flavors of a perfectly grilled beef burger served with crispy fries. For those drawn to the sea, the housemade fish croquette and the vibrant fish tacos are exquisite choices, bursting with freshness and perfectly balanced seasoning.
Vegetarian options like the mushroom skewers and the crispy, golden fried calamari reveal the kitchen’s commitment to quality and creativity. The platters, whether large or sweet, provide an ideal way to share a taste of the providore’s best and sample multiple flavors in one sitting. Complement your meal with a bowl of rustic chips or sweet potato fries, paired with creamy aioli that offers a delightfully rich contrast.
Beyond the café, the gourmet grocery section is a treasure trove for food lovers. An impressive range of local Tassie-made products fills the shelves, from gluten-free treats to savory delights like venison jerky and crumbed lamb cutlets. Customers rave about the freshness and quality — a real testament to the store’s dedication to supporting local suppliers. The gluten-free chocolate muffin, described as exceptionally fresh and moist, is just one example of the providore’s attention to dietary needs without compromising on flavor or indulgence.
Customer testimonials paint a vivid picture of the East Coast Village Providore experience. Em, a delighted visitor, praises the abundance of gluten-free options and local produce, highlighting the tender steak sandwich served on a soft gluten-free bun that perfectly balances juicy meat and tangy pickles. Wendy Timmerman appreciates both the excellent coffee and the “just right” thickness of the breakfast roll bread, alongside quality meats and delicious savory scones. Jane R’s repeated purchases of the frozen scallop mornay pie reveal a flaky, creamy, and generously filled offering that keeps patrons coming back for more.
The friendly, attentive staff enhance the overall experience, making patrons feel welcomed and well cared for. Serenity Chan’s preference for this café over others in town and Chris Baczkowski’s enjoyment of sitting under a shady tree while sipping great coffee show that East Coast Village Providore offers something truly special — a relaxed, authentic space where community, cuisine, and quality come together beautifully.
Whether you’re seeking a satisfying brunch, top-notch coffee, or unique gourmet groceries that celebrate Tasmania’s rich culinary heritage, East Coast Village Providore is a must-visit. It captures the essence of Tasmanian food culture with authenticity, passion, and a genuine warmth that invites you to linger, explore, and savor every moment.

Great gem of a place. Sooooo much good food available in the shop and so many gluten free options. Good price and a lot of local tassie produce. The gf crumbed lamb cutlets from the store were delicious for dinner. Venison jerky was yum! Super fresh GF chocolate muffin. And had a super tasty steak sandwich from the cafe— gf bun was soft, steak was amazingly tender and the sauce and pickles were yummo + chips were crispy and delicious.

Great coffee and partner enjoyed a very tasty breakfast roll. He commented that the bread was not too thick, just right. Good selection of bread to purchase and quality meats. Also yummy savoury scones.

The providore is both a Cafe and Shop. I purchased a coffee, pain au chocolate and almond croissants from the cafe to take away. I also purchased (twice) their frozen scallop mornay pie (not curried) the pastry was flaky and the filling creamy and although it was a smallish pie it was packed full of scallops, we also purchased salads and other items. A really well stocked shop, locally sourced goods and the quality is exceptional.

Great service, beautiful local ingredients, good quality coffee. Tried the other famous cafe across the street but I like this one better! But make sure you pay for the tomatoe sauce! No self-help.

Dropped in here for a light lunch. Amateur is the sit down Cafe section of the providore. With a strong Vietnamese inspired menu it was excellent. The mushroom skewer was sensational as were the pork bar buns. Update Feb 2026. Had breakfast here after staying in St Helens for the night. I had home made baked beans, sourdough, bacon and a poached egg. Brilliant. Kerry went with 2 poached eggs on sourdough with avocado and drizzled with a lemon dressing.. fabulous and the eggs perfect

Stopped in for a quick bite, but ended up having the best Lamb tacos I've ever eaten! The shop has a great range of food, wines and local produce. Do yourself a big favour and stop in, you wont regret it!

Great cafe, deli & coffee. Excellent Matcha & fresh pastries. An awesome deli too, much like Salamanca in Hobart! Lots of parking available so definitely a great spot to stop even if you're just passing through.
